Patrick Olivelle is Professor Emeritus of Asian Studies at the University of Texas, Austin. He is known for his work on early Indian religions, law, and statecraft.
He was the Chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, and the Department of Asian Studies at the University of Texas. Olivelle received his MA from Oxford University and PhD from University of Pennsylvania.
